Takakkaw Falls

Takakkaw Falls (named from a Cree word loosely translated to "it is magnificent") is 991 feet tall and located just outside of Field, British Columbia. A winding road leads away from the main highway, and there are a few places to pull over and get home great photos of the river and Spiral Tunnels on your way up. The drive itself is jaw-droppingly beautiful, with incredible vistas around every corner.

(Isn't this miniature of the mountain range and waterfalls just so cool?!)

Once you get to the top parking lot, there is a small path that leads you along the river to a bridge, and that's when the Falls come into view. It seems as though the water is falling in slow motion despite the fact that it's actually pounding down. It had an extremely calming effect on me, just watching and listening to the water.

We ventured a little closer to the falls and as a result we ended up soaked. The spray hits you even at a great distance, but we didn't mind. As you can see in the photo below, you can actually climb up beside the falls. We were not well equipped for climbing up rocks, but that doesn't mean I didn't try!
